Cyber-citizenship

Last week we discussed cybercitizenship in Computing - how to do the right thing online. We used some phrases taped up on the walls around the classroom as discussion-starters, and students offered their own opinions about these by writing on post-its. It was really interesting to see the different perspectives we all have!

Electronics

We have been learning about simple circuits and electronics in computing this week. We have one last project to make next week, and it involves a game and very annoying buzzers - sorry parents!

The photo shows one of our little magnetic 'throwie' LEDs and a worksheet.

Pixel Art

Hi all,

Over the past week in computing we learned about pixels and how we can combine them into lines, and then cut and paste them to create shapes. We made 3D tower blocks.

These ones (on the left) are from Keegan, Erika and Dane. A very colourful little city!

Welcome 9BNM

Scratch Games
This week we are learning the basics of programming. We are doing this by making games using Scratch software. You can download the free software from http://scratch.mit.edu/download.

Here is an example of an animation made using scratch:

Please post a comment on this blog post, telling me what you like and dislike about Scratch, so far.

Cyberbullying

Today we talked about cyberbullying - what it is, why it is so harmful, and what we can do to help if someone we know is involved in bullying. We watched this video about a boy called Joe and how bullying affected him.

Electronics

Last week we made 'throwies' - we learned about LEDs, what electricity really is, insulators and conductors, and creating an electrical circuit. The throwies are a coin-shaped battery with a magnet and an LED taped to them, which can be thrown at or placed on metallic surfaces - such as my whiteboard!
